Harvard University
Cambridge, Massachusetts
The oldest and most famous university in America has 6,600 undergraduates. With an admit rate around 10% and over 20,000 applicants, most highly qualified, getting in is quite a challenge. Legacy clearly plays a role with about 40% of these applicants earning admission. The largest programs are economics, political science, social science, and psychology. Across the board, majors are strong, though some critics believe the larger graduate program pulls attention away from the undergraduates.
