The School of Communication at the University of Miami is one of 8 schools and colleges located on 260 acres in beautiful Coral Gables, a suburb south of Miami. The University of Miami is the largest, private research institution of higher learning in the Southeast.  The School of Communication offers ten undergraduate bachelor of science degrees including advertising, broadcast journalism, communication studies, journalism, motion picture, public relations, media management, photography, broadcasting, and video/film and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication. At the undergraduate level, students receive the unique advantage of a double major, one chosen in communication and the other of their choice from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Graduate programs include a master of arts in print journalism, film studies, communication studies, television broadcast journalism, and public relations or a master of fine arts in motion pictures: producing, screenwriting, and production. A Ph.D. in communication is also offered, which is patterned after the Oxford/Cambridge model.

The University of Miami supports its reputation as a national leader in the awarding of academic scholarships, in which approximately 45 percent of the freshman class receive an academic scholarship. In addition, every student who applies for admission is automatically considered for a scholarship, so there is no separate scholarship application process. For 2002 – 2003, the estimated cost of attendance for undergraduates is $24,810 for tuition and fees, $8,060 for room and board, and $775 per year for books and supplies.

The School of Communication boasts 45 full-time faculty members with strong research and professional backgrounds, as well as a small student/instructor ratio, 16:1. Additionally, study abroad programs are offered, including programs in England, Ireland, and Prague, just to name a few, and internships are also offered so students can gain practical experience. Since Miami is the third largest entertainment and media center in the United States, students receive much opportunity for hands on experience. Typically, the request for interns exceeds the number of available students. The School of Communication operates its own career placement office, and our alumni are employed by prestigious national and international companies, operating in the United State and abroad.

Located in a new, modern 50,000 square foot building, the School of Communication at the University of Miami features state-of-the art facilities including broadcast studios, film studios, and avid and video editing suites. There are wet and digital photography labs, and high-tech MacIntosh and PC computer labs including a graphics lab for advertising, journalism, and public relations classes. Students are also invited to take part in the many activities offered at the school, some of which include the student-run radio station - WVUM, the cable channel - UMTV, and the Miami Hurricane - the semi-weekly student newspaper.

The School of Communication at the University of Miami is a highly selective institution and the students represent diverse backgrounds with strong geographical and ethnic representation. The School of Communication is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
